Halban's Syndrome (Dr. Hill?)

I searched and found a post by Dr. Hill related to Halban's Syndrome. I am 26 days past ovulation with no period. Dr. Hill indicated that this may or may not be an actual syndrome but that it does occur when the corpus luteum doesn't reabsorb into the body on its own. What could cause this, what can be done about it and how long should I go without a period before being concerned. We are TTC (8 1/2 months) Also, there are no REs in our area. How do I find a good one that I can trust in a larger town?
