tampons

I've only been to my gynecologist twice because I turned 18 about a year ago, and each time she tried to do a pap test, but it was too painful for me. She suggested that I start using tampons to stretch out the area.I've been using tampons for 6 months now and it hasn't helped.Recently I posted a message about how inserting and taking out tampons was painful for me. The suggestion was that I try different types of applicators or try lying on my back and inserting and using some KY jelly. I have already tried just about every brand of tampon there is and it is still painful. I tried different ways of inserting it, but that did not work either. None of my friends seem to have this problem. What could be wrong with me? Is this normal?
